Keanu Reeves returns as the iconic Marine turned assassin in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” the latest movie in the saga of a man who takes on the best hitmen and hitwomen the world has to offer and finds a way to survive.
“Freedom is a fight,” the newly released final trailer for the movie tells us, and there’s a lot in it to consider.
The soundtrack for the promo clips is Nas’ 2001 hip-hop classic “Got Ur Self a Gun,” which samples Alabama 3’s “Woke Up This Morning,” the 1990s underground hit that is best known as the theme for HBO’s “The Sopranos.” We’re off to a great start.
The best news is that Wick, a man who will take down a crime organization to avenge his dog, has a new canine partner that joins him in a gun battle that takes place in the notoriously crowded traffic circle around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It’s not a proper Wick film without a dog.
The announced plot for “John Wick: Chapter 4” implies that Wick can finally get out from under the rules of the High Table, the council that seems to run the hitman universe, if he takes on its leader in hand-to-hand combat. No one who’s ever watched Reeves in a Wick movie thinks he’ll lose to the Marquis de Gramont (played by Bill Skarsgård, who was “Pennywise” in the recent “It” movies), but no one will be going into the movie thinking that “Chapter 4” will actually wrap up the Wick saga, either.
How great will the kills be this time? Will we finally get more details about John Wick’s military service and how he went from Marine to hitman? We’ll find out when “John Wick: Chapter 4” opens in theaters on March 24, 2023.
